It's Halloween Week

Thanksgiving is over, so push aside the turkey and bring on the candy...Welcome to Halloween aWeek at the Scrapbooking Cafe. Every day for the next week (and perhaps even a few extra days if I can get them done) I will be posting Halloween projects.

I love Halloween! It's just such a fun Holiday and the kids are so cute in their costumes. I love the fall colours and the Halloween decorations - the cute kind, not so much the gory kind. And because I love Halloween so much, I like to send out Halloween cards to a few of my friends and family that I know also enjoy the spooky holiday.

So to start Halloween week, I am sharing one of my Halloween cards.

Life is a Beautiful Journey

It might have been better if I had named this layout "Life is a Beautiful Accident", because that's totally what this layout started out as.

I had a vision, I wanted to use the My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Union Square paper line to create a cut-out background as my base. So I pulled out the paper and ran it through my Silhouette Cameo (how I ever lived without this machine I will never know!). But....the background I ended up with was too delicate. It didn't fit "the vision", and now I had used an entire piece of paper and created something I might never use. So.....I downloaded an individual shape pattern and created my own, more spacious background instead using the Silhouette Studio software and my trusty Cameo. Voila! Vision achieved.

Then I wanted to stencil over the top layer using a lovely Memory Box damask stencil. So I pulled out my grey and black paint, but fortunately, before I could apply paint to paper I decided that would be too dark. So I grabbed a nice crimson red instead. I sponged my paint with different pressures through the stencil and I was a bit skeptical about the result at first, but I pressed on.

I added my other paper layers, also from the Union Square paper line, distressed the edges and added my photo and I was really liking the direction, but something was still missing. And then I pulled out the original background paper I had cut......what a great little extra layer of dimension it added, by snipping out pieces of it and applying them. And then, I got extra points by using the negative bits left over from the original background cuts. I sponged the edges of them, popped them up on pop dots, and adhered them in little groupings around the photo. Below is a photo of the tile pop ups:

Hey folks - I'm back with another 12x12 layout for you. Clearly the weekends are turning out pretty productive for me lately.

This picture is just so pretty, with the pastel tones and country cottage feel, that I knew I just wanted to put it in a layout. I know my style can sometimes be a bit busy, so I tried to dial back a bit on the embellishments this time round and I think the result is pretty successful. Hope you like it too - comments are welcome :D

I also used the E6000 Spray Adhesive glue for the first time. Although it took me a bit to get the pump on it working properly, once I did I have to say this stuff is soooooo easy to use, and makes gluing on those pesky intricate dies so much easier. I will definitely be pulling this out more often.

Chloes Stem Card Set!

Hello!  It's only a few days until Christmas!  Are you running around still shopping?  Or are you like  me working on projects like crazy??  Today I have one of the projects that I have made this week to share!  I decided to make the teacher card sets!  I had to make 5!!!  I find the teachers always love my card sets!  While I do enjoy making card sets I do not enjoy making them when I hardly have any time to make them! So what's a girl to do?  Use products that you can work fast with!  Die cuts are super quick so I used the Memory Box Die Chloe's Stem with My Mind's Eye's The Sweetest Thing Bluebell papers!  

I stamped the Newspaper background by Hero arts in the mid tone wet cement, than added a strip of pp and die cut chloes stem with some paper from the collection!  This card set didn't take too long to make!  Am I the only one who sometimes find coming up with the idea for the set what takes the most time??  :>

Ho Ho Holiday Tag Week: Day 3

When I heard we were doing a tag challenge I was thrilled!!  I love tags, love to make them and love to pin them!! I cannot get enough!  So what a thrill to have an entire week of TAGS!  Ok I'll calm down now and show you what I've been working on...

I bought a big box of manilla tags from Staples about 2 years ago and I"m still using the same box.  Although I only have about 10 left. :)  Because there's little space to decorate I tend to use up my scraps.  I love being able to use up all those little bits of pretty paper I can't bare to throw out.

Fabulous Fall layout

Here we are on another lovely holiday Monday. This holiday has been brought to us by the brave men and women who fought for the freedom we enjoy today; and for that I am truly thankful. Lest we Forget.

Last week I shared a tag with you, if you missed that post, you can check it out here.  This week, I promised that I would show you what I decided to do with it. So here it is...

I made a pretty simple layout because I wanted the photo to stand out. I started with the base wood grain paper from My Minds Eye and then mixed some Simple Stories papers from their 6x6 pads. I used Harvest Lane and FabUlous.

See that wood grain brad and orange button below the tag? Well they are both covering up seams where I had to piece papers together.  I just love the smaller patterns that come in the 6x6 pads but obviously the papers are too small to go the length of a traditional 12x12 layout. That's OK! I just cut two strips and overlapped them slightly. I used the embellishments to cover up the seams so they are not so noticeable. The orange damask paper is also two pieces from a 6x6 pad, but the tag covers up that seam...easy peasy!

Bird Cage gift tags

The minute I saw the bird cage die from Poppy Stamps Dies I knew I had to have it.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I got it but I just had have it.  So today I was inspired to use the die and make some Christmas tags with it.  So I die cut and inked them with Antique Linen by Ranger and started decorating with the Winter Wonderland paper pad by My Mind's Eye.  I had some left over Poinsettia pieces (Spellbinders) and some snowflakes (Martha Stewart).

Hi all! Today I have a fun little project I love to make!  It super quick and easy to do plus it always makes people laugh!  I have to warn you the photos are not great, my hubby is away with my camera and I had to use my iPhone.  I'm not so great with it :)

So here's the front.  Notice the little tab/flag thingy?  It's actually holding the little case closed!

The trick here is to put dimension foam adhesive on the top and bottom of the snowman and leaving the center open to slip the little tab through.

Want to know how to make it?

Here's how.

1. Cut a piece of cardstock 9.5x6.5

2. Score at the 4 and 5.5 cm marks

3. Cut tab from1 strip of cardstock 10 x 2 cm

4. Score tab at 4 and 5.5 cm marks

5. Trim end as desired

Sweetest Thing

Hello!  Happy Thursday!  It's me Anita and today i have a card to share with you!  This card uses the new My Mind's Eye pad, The Sweetest Thing Bluebell 6 by 6 pad.  I love the colors of this pad, it's so easy to use the blues!  And my card also uses the Lorelei Leaf by Poppy Stamps, along with the perched bird by Memory Box!

I used one paper from the pad and used both sides to it, I love placing the bird on the leaf like this!  :>  Used another paper from The Sweetest thing pad for the polka dotted bird!  The sentiment is from the Good Friends set by Hero Arts, I think this makes a good Thinking of you card!

Celebrate You today

A few weeks back I tried to make a simple card using the Darla Butterfly die, I knew I wanted it to be as simple as can be with a white background and the solid Butterfly die with maybe a few of them cut from pattern paper (Nostalgia-My Mind's Eye).  I did this and put it aside because I was lost. I didn't know what to do with it.  So finally I had enough and embellished it. :)  So here's my card with a little lace, button,twine and pin.

Hi, everyone! Dani Donner here today bringing you some Too Cool for School altered project and a tutorial. I found this super cute altered item at Lisa Storms' website (one talented lady) and fell madly in love with them. SO this week I decided to give one for each of my boys' teachers and here is the tutorial:

I used the Best Glue Ever to cover the small cardboard box (don't forget to lightly sand it, helps adhere the paper) with pattern paper. Added a pattern paper lid to the back of the box. You may want to put a small magnet in the lid and seal it in with some cardboard to make things sturdier. Embellish the front. Add two stripes of pattern paper to the back to complete the backpack and... Done! You have a cute little backpack that you can ill with chocolate and give as a gift for the teacher or even or other students (imagine a Halloween themed one, cute!). Here is a better look at the finished project:

30 minutes...

can you believe it! I made this card from start to finish in about 30 minutes! That is a major achievement for me because usually I hum and ha and fuss over my cards, but this one just came together.

I had a heck of a time trying to edit my phots of this card, the colors kept going all weird on me...I think it is because this line is very muted and has a grey tone to all the colors and my photo editing software kept wanting to make it 'brighter'. Someone more talented at photo editing than I probably could have done a much better job...but anyways...

I used the grey tape from My Minds Eye's Ginger collection and put a few strips across some white cardstock to make it look like patterned paper.

Loving Birds

Hello!  Happy Thursday!  It's Anita from http://craftygrldesigns.blogspot.com/ Hope your week has been great!  Today I have a pretty romantic card to share using the perched bird die by Memory Box and My Mind's Eye's Indie Chic Saffron's!  

I used a paper from the Indie Chic Pad that was mostly white with a bit of beige and grey texture.  I used to find myself wondering with what to do with these "solid" white pieces but I love the texture they have!  I stamped on it with Antique Linen ink by Ranger the lattice background by Hero Arts and in Pumice Stone ink by ranger I stamped the old letter writing.  Scrapbooking Cafe has lots of Tim Holtz Ranger inks here  Than I die cut the birds to reverse the image I just flipped the bird and cut it from the other side.  I distressed the edges with a distress tool.  Stamped I love You and I made my own pink lace by spraying it with Tattered Angels mist!

Cut, Colour,Foiled!

Hi everyone, happy hump day!! Today I have just one card to show you using one of my most favorite paper collections called Lost & Found Blush by My Mind's Eye.  I was almost afraid to use it the paper was so pretty then I went out on  limb and distressed and stained it to give it a more vintage look and I'm glad I took the plunge.  The ink I used is a Distress Ink by Ranger called Vintage Photo.
To make the flowers I die cut paper using Spellbinders Blossom dies, used the edge of my scissors to distress, inked then squished them in my hand to crumple them.  Glue the centers and embellish with a brad and poof a flower!!

Once the card was assembled I thought it might be neat if I could add foils to this girl's hair.  So keeping my fingers crossed and cutting tiny strips of tin foil I began "foiling" her hair.  Here's the result

Hi SCafe fans I hope you are all having a wonderful day I have a long weekend and I cant wait to get scrapping. I created a 12x12 Scrapbook page today with a 6x6 paper pad... I wish I could afford to buy the 12x12 papers in EVERY collection but we all have a budget we need to stick to... so I thought what a great idea to show how we can buy the 6x6 but use them on a 12x12. the 6x6 pads are not only for the cardmakers :)

Indie Chic Thinking of You!

Hello!  It's Thursday which means it's me Anita from http://craftygrldesigns.blogspot.ca/here and I am excited to have a card to share with you today!  :>  I am playing the the My Mind's Eye Indie Chic Saffron pad again along with a Memory Box die!   I really love this pad the colors and patterns are so easy to use and I can't get enough of the Memory Box dies!

This Wild Blooms die is very detailed and has a lot of small pieces so my favorite way to use it is by using the negative.  I die cut it through with one of the patterned papers from the Indie Chic pad and paired it with underneath a solid paper from the pad!   Embossed the sentiment from Hero Arts set!  Added some twine, I love twine and Scrapbooking Cafe Online has a lot check it out here.  It really adds so much to the card!

Silhouette Vines

Hello!  It's Thursday so it's my turn to post here!  It's Anita from http://craftygrldesigns.blogspot.com/ and I am excited to be here!  Today I have a card to share featuring the 6 by 6 pad Indie Chic Saffron by My Mind's Eye and using a Hero Arts and Sizzix Emboss and Stamp Set Silhouette Vines.  Scrapbooking Cafe Online has quite a few of the Hero Arts and Sizzix Emboss and Stamp sets!  You can see them here.  These sets are really neat!  They come with a stamp set and an matching embossing folder!  I love stamping and love how the dry embossing enhances the stamping!  Here is my card:

I also used heat embossing! It's fun to combine both the heat embossing and the dry embossing!  I heat embossed the Silhouette Vines in chestnut zing embossing powder!  I love heat embossing on patterned paper, I really like the look it achieves! This is actually my first card I've made with this set and it was fool proof!  :>

Hello NYC!!

Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share my excitement. Friday my husband and I will be heading to NYC (yep, the Big Apple itself) to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary, my favourite detail: NO KIDS ALLOWED!! YAY!!!

So, to get this parted started and already anticipating the gazillion pictures I will take, I started to work on my minibook for the trip. Can you tell that I'm excited? Well, I am!
