Glitter in Silver and Gold
Another goal for this years cards was to use up old stashes. Despite really wanting to delve into new paper stacks, I resisted the urge and used up ghosts of Christmas paper past. That lead to me to digging up some of my other supplies I hadn't used in a while, including my glitter ritz!
These are two cards I made in the same style. Adding a little glitter and sparkle to a relatively simple card turned out really well, and they were both super simple to make.

Joy Card
I had a goal this year of making Christmas cards that could travel through the mail easily, without needing padded envelopes or extra postage. To that end, I saw some cards on Pinterest that had this unique two piece cover joined by either large letters or images, so I decided to give it a try.
This card didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. It looks ok, but getting the letters to stick well was difficult. I tried a variety of adhesives and some worked better than others, but in the end I was somewhat disappointed. For me, it's a little plain - but the paper is so pretty. It actually has a little shimmer to it which is hard to capture on camera.

Happy Holiday Tag Card
So apparently the post-Halloween wrap up and pre-Christmas ramp up have kept me insanely busy - which is why I was terribly behind this year on cards, decorating, shopping, wrapping and baking!
However, I did finally get the cards out in the mail and hopefully they will make it to everyone on time. Here is my first Christmas Card of the season.
This is a fun card because it's so bright and cheery and doesn't use the typical Holiday colours. I hope you all like it.

This is another of my favourite Halloween Stamps - this one by Inkadinkadoo. I used the same border technique as the Danse Macabre card (another failed attempt to get the border to cut in my Silhouette Cameo with a dull blade).

Witches Hat Centerpiece - Home Decor
I picked up this cute little chipboard witches hat and thought it would make a great Halloween centerpiece for my dining room table. It was also really fun to make because essentially you just gather miscellaneous fall and Halloween embellishments and glue gun them together into an attractive arrangement.

Trick or Treat
When someone is just getting started in scrapbooking and looking to make Holiday cards I always advise them to get a good paper pack with some great patterns but also some pages that have cut outs for tags, text, etc. It keeps costs for new scrapbookers down and can create some beautiful projects just with paper. Here is an example of one of those "one paper pack" cards:

Danse Macabre - Card
I love this background stamp from Stampendous, and a project over on the Stampendous project page inspired me to dig it out again and try it with something new - Dylusions Ink Spray.
The really funny thing about this project was the border - it's a negative I turned into a positive. I tried printing a spiderweb border using my Silhouette Cameo, but it wouldn't cut all the way through the cardstock - I suspect because I need a new blade (my machine is well used). But because it didn't cut all the way through, it created a really neat etched type of border. Rather than waste the cardstock and the effort, I decided to keep it. I accented it with a mix of some black, orange and green glitter and then some My Mind's Eye chipboard elements and voila.

Scary Wall Hanging
This is a great project that you could do for any Holiday, and a fun one to share with the kids. Plus, it's a great use of scrap paper, or if you're a paper hoarder like me it helps get rid of some of those pieces you've been hanging onto. So make room for some new paper and give this project a try.

Halloween Gift Tag
Giving out treats at Halloween isn't just isolated to the kids in costumes. Sometimes you might want to make batches of goodies for friends, family, neighbours or co-workers. What a better way to finish off your present than with a Halloween gift tag using my new favourite obsession - Prima Mixed Media Doll stamps by Julie Nutting.

It's Halloween Week
Thanksgiving is over, so push aside the turkey and bring on the candy...Welcome to Halloween aWeek at the Scrapbooking Cafe. Every day for the next week (and perhaps even a few extra days if I can get them done) I will be posting Halloween projects.
I love Halloween! It's just such a fun Holiday and the kids are so cute in their costumes. I love the fall colours and the Halloween decorations - the cute kind, not so much the gory kind. And because I love Halloween so much, I like to send out Halloween cards to a few of my friends and family that I know also enjoy the spooky holiday.
So to start Halloween week, I am sharing one of my Halloween cards.

Feather Thank You Card
Today's project features this beautiful feather die from Die-namics and Dylusions Ink Spray from Ranger.
Feathers and chevrons are really popular in scrapbooking right now, and I decided to combine the two to create this lovely thank you card featuring the colours of the season.
I love how the orange and black worked out here to create a nice autumn colour palette but doesn't lean toward Halloween. Funny enough, two of the papers I used for this card are from Halloween paper packs, but I think they were generic enough to work on this project! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Cardstock - Bazzil
Dies - Die-namics (feather) and Tim Holtz/Sizzix - (Plaque & Poster edge die)
Dylusions Ink Spray - Pure Sunshine, Squeezed Orange and Tangerine Dream
Stamps - Just Rite and Hot off the Press
Ink - Colorbox, Versafine and Stampin' Up

Fall is in the air
I love the fall season! I love the temperature. I love the colours. I love Thanksgiving and Halloween. And I love pulling out all my favourite fall paper lines and playing with projects.
Today I got to play with some new supplies - A sunflower stamp from Stampendous and some new markers.
Tags are such a great way to play with your new supplies on a small canvas - and when they're done, you can use them on all sorts of things - birthday gifts, thank you gifts, a nice bottle of wine hostess gift, you can put them on layouts or add them to a card! I just use some cardstock and a hole punch to make the tag base - fast, easy, and I can make it any size or colour I need.

Life is a Beautiful Journey
I had a vision, I wanted to use the My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Union Square paper line to create a cut-out background as my base. So I pulled out the paper and ran it through my Silhouette Cameo (how I ever lived without this machine I will never know!). But....the background I ended up with was too delicate. It didn't fit "the vision", and now I had used an entire piece of paper and created something I might never use. So.....I downloaded an individual shape pattern and created my own, more spacious background instead using the Silhouette Studio software and my trusty Cameo. Voila! Vision achieved.
Then I wanted to stencil over the top layer using a lovely Memory Box damask stencil. So I pulled out my grey and black paint, but fortunately, before I could apply paint to paper I decided that would be too dark. So I grabbed a nice crimson red instead. I sponged my paint with different pressures through the stencil and I was a bit skeptical about the result at first, but I pressed on.
I added my other paper layers, also from the Union Square paper line, distressed the edges and added my photo and I was really liking the direction, but something was still missing. And then I pulled out the original background paper I had cut......what a great little extra layer of dimension it added, by snipping out pieces of it and applying them. And then, I got extra points by using the negative bits left over from the original background cuts. I sponged the edges of them, popped them up on pop dots, and adhered them in little groupings around the photo. Below is a photo of the tile pop ups:

In the end I love how the whole layout turned out, and I hope you like it too! Comments are always welcome, and don't forget to follow us here on the blog by clicking "Join this site" over on the left!

Pretty in Pink
This picture is just so pretty, with the pastel tones and country cottage feel, that I knew I just wanted to put it in a layout. I know my style can sometimes be a bit busy, so I tried to dial back a bit on the embellishments this time round and I think the result is pretty successful. Hope you like it too - comments are welcome :D
I also used the E6000 Spray Adhesive glue for the first time. Although it took me a bit to get the pump on it working properly, once I did I have to say this stuff is soooooo easy to use, and makes gluing on those pesky intricate dies so much easier. I will definitely be pulling this out more often.

The Red Viper
This is for all the Game of Thrones fans out there...
I am loving the distressed style right now so you might see it on a lot of my layouts in the future. This combines a bunch of different paper brands, some inking with stamp pads and acrylic paint, and then lots of fun embellishments. I hope you like it.
Here is a close up of one of the embellishment areas. I tend to always buy my flowers in white so that I can dye them any color I want using Glimmer Mists, Dylusions, or any other spray I might have.

Cha-cha-cha-cha-changes
Hey everyone and welcome to the new look for the Scrapbooking Cafe Online blog! My name is Susan and I will be working to help Kristy at the Cafe maintain and update the blog.
I hope to post at least twice a month - new projects, techniques, new products, challenges, whatever I can think of to share. If you have questions or suggestions please feel free to comment...I don't proclaim to be an expert, but if I can help find an answer for you I certainly will.
Lastly, I hope you will share your projects and inspirations with us as well from time to time. Be sure to follow us (see the link at the top of the left column) as we work on getting creative, probably messy, and hopefully have a lot of fun!
New projects coming soon.....
So who am I?
Well, I am a mom of one, a web developer by trade, and most importantly a scrapbooker and mixed media dabbler. I LOVE to try new things and experiment with new products and I love sharing this hobby and art with others. I do not work for, or at, the Cafe but Kristy is my "go to girl" for all my scrapbook and mixed media supplies, so I offered up my web skills to contribute new projects to the blog.I hope to post at least twice a month - new projects, techniques, new products, challenges, whatever I can think of to share.
